Your Faith Has Healed You

She said to herself, "If I only touch his cloak, I will be healed." Jesus turned and saw her. "Take heart, daughter," he said. "Your faith has healed you." And the woman was healed from that moment. Matthew 9:21-22

We have read, "Without faith, it is impossible to please God" (Hebrews 11:6). How do we apply such a statement to the reality of everyday living? Let's ask it another way. Are we pleasing God in our everyday life by applying faith in all we are doing? I think we must now ask, "What is faith and how do we apply it?" Now, this can stretch into a very long and complicated discussion, but let's confine it to a simple explanation and application for the purpose of this devotion.

Simply put, faith is our unutterable trust in God. Trust in One whose character is infallible, who tests our trust in Him so that it can be turned into a personal possession. It is our unwavering reliance upon His choosing. Not what's good for us, a choice that would be influenced by common sense, but what is best and glorifying to Him. It is not sentiment, but a vigorous confidence built on the fact that God is holy love. It is a reckless confidence in God, a supernatural relationship born of God, with which He seeks to clothe our lives so that they become glorious opportunities for seeing His supernatural power manifested in the normal routine of our daily living. His life lived through us.

Such was the experience of the needy woman who had been afflicted for 12 years with an "issue of blood." There was nothing within her to command any action on the part of Jesus, except her complete abandonment and unutterable trust in Jesus Christ, that He was able to supernaturally heal her. She recognized in Christ a holy love that would reach the depths of her human need. By His divine power, He could "do exceeding abundantly above all she could ask or think" (Ephesians 3:20).

So, what happened? She exercised complete trust in Him and was fully delivered from her desperate need. Trust is when we "commit what we believe by applying it to active circumstances." It is putting into practice the principles of our faith.

James makes it very clear when he says, "A man may say, you have faith and I have works: show me your faith without your works, and I will show you my faith by my works. You believe that there is one God; you do well: the devils also believe, and tremble. But will you know, O vain man, that faith without works is dead?" (James 2:18-20).

We find many today who adhere intellectually to truth, principles of faith, creeds, tradition, and forms of worship, but have never put their unutterable trust in the truth or abandoned themselves to the One who is "the Way, the Truth, and the Life." This woman activated her belief with irrevocable trust in Jesus Christ, and He said, "Your faith hath made you whole!" Such childlike faith in Almighty God brings deliverance, a walk with the Lord that is undeniable, where He does the impossible! Dare to trust in the majesty of God!
