"And I pray that you, being rooted and established in love, may have power, together with all saints, to grasp how wide and long and high and deep is the love of Christ, and to know this love that surpasses knowledge." Ephesians 3:17-19
Paul's prayer for these Ephesian Christians in verses 14-21 is a prayer that they may be strengthened and know a depth of the love of God that they have never experienced before. What a tremendous prayer of intercession by Paul for these believers. Certainly, this should be the prayer of our hearts, that we might enter into such a blessed relationship with the Lord that we would see miracles of His grace doing "exceeding abundantly above all we can ask or think, according to the power that works in us." Such is our position and privilege in Christ.
It is for us to appropriate that which His grace has so abundantly provided. It's interesting to compare the Old and New Covenant provisions. In the Old Covenant, God said, do this and live. In the New Covenant, He said, believe and be saved. In the Old, God established the Law and required perfect and perpetual obedience. In the New, God provides a Savior and offers atonement and reconciliation for our sins. In the Old, God instantly and irreversibly doomed the transgressor to destruction. In the New, God makes provision for all the sins and offenses that ever were committed.
How blessed to know that God has provided a "new and living way" through Jesus Christ on the cross. He has rent [done away with] the veil that separated us from Him. He has given us access to His holy presence, into the "secret of His tabernacle" and invites us to "come boldly to the throne of grace that we might obtain mercy and find grace to help in time of need." This blessed privilege is beyond my comprehension; I simply cannot fathom that God has made such a privileged provision, that by faith and through prayer, we can enter into His very presence and commune with Him. If we could in some measure grasp the immeasurable significance of this it would radically change our lives!
It is in His presence we come to realize anew the magnitude of His grace and the provisions of His love. It is here we find PARDON for all our sins, PEACE to comfort us in our trials, STRENGTH to uphold us in our weakness, WISDOM when we are limited in our own understanding, DISCERNMENT when we are frustrated and confused, GRACE to sustain us when accused by others, LOVE for us who are unlovely, COMPASSION when we are hurting and in need, GENTLENESS when we have been abused, a REFUGE when attacked and pursued by the enemy, MERCY when we are so undeserving, and COMFORT when we have been rejected. How blessed to know this love and be possessed by it. We have access to the boundless, unsearchable riches of God through Jesus Christ. Here we find ALL WE NEED for body, soul, and spirit, for now and for eternity, freely and fully by His Grace, through Jesus Christ. How great is our God of all grace, mercy, and love! Oh, that we might live a life on the highest plane, appropriating by faith all that He has provided for those who will DARE TO BELIEVE. Do you know Christ in this transforming way? Let Him radically transform your life to the praise of His glory and grace! DARE TO TRUST HIM TODAY!
