Prayer Was Made Without Ceasing

"Peter therefore was kept in prison, but prayer was made without ceasing of the church unto God for him." Acts 12:5

What does it mean to you to trust in the Lord? How do you trust the Lord? What is your attitude when you trust the Lord? How do you relate to your circumstances when you trust the Lord? Who is in control when you trust in the Lord? How revealing these questions are to us when we search our hearts and answer them honestly. They lay bare our lives as to whether we really trust the Lord, or, are seeking Him with our hands still holding onto all of our efforts and resources.

The faith that conquers is the faith that turns from all of our resources, casting all of our anxieties and trials on Christ, and trusting His sufficiency to meet our needs. It is the faith that rejects doubt, discouragement, circumstances, fear, criticism, and anything else that would hinder our complete and simple confidence in our sovereign God, the anchor of our trust. Committed faith recognizes victory before the battle even begins. Conquering faith advances from the fact, that "the Lord is able and can"...to the fact, that "the Lord will."

Habakkuk's testimony concerning his confidence and trust in God should be a constant encouragement to all of us. He was faced with a certain and brutal conquest of his country by an overwhelmingly strong Babylonian army. It was not a question of defeat; it was simply a question of when. Every human security was in shambles; there was no way his men could stand against such an overpowering army. But Habakkuk refused to succumb to a defeated spirit, and refused to let discouraging circumstances have any part of his complete, unwavering confidence in God.

Look what he says: "Although the fig tree shall not blossom, neither shall any fruit be in her vines. The labor of the olive shall fail and the fields shall yield no meat, the flock shall be cut off from the fold, and there shall be no herd in my stalls. YET, I WILL REJOICE IN THE LORD. I will joy in the God of my salvation. The LORD is my strength, and He will make my feet like the feet of a deer, and make me walk upon my high places!" This is implicit trust in a living all-powerful God!

When the crisis of adversity comes to us, it instantly reveals in whom we trust! When we encounter life with its conflicts, we either trust the Lord or take things in our own hands, saying, "Don't worry Lord, I can handle this. I really don't need you right now." We can only walk in the power of God, know the blessedness of His presence, and experience what He can do, by letting the Holy Spirit penetrate our lives with full and free access to our being. He takes control and manifests in and through us the SUFFICIENCY OF CHRIST. It is in the trial that our faith is tested. But in going through the trial with Christ, our faith is strengthened and made steadfast. The only limit to implicit faith and fervent prayer is the fathomless, unsearchable, boundless riches of God! Who is the anchor of your life? May it be the ROCK OF AGES...JESUS CHRIST! The one who varies not, hears the heart cry and yearning of our soul, and compassionately meets us where we are!
