"Praise be to the God and Father of our Lord Jesus Christ, who has blessed us in the heavenly realms with every spiritual blessing in Christ." Ephesians 1:3
To understand the significance of our position as a believer, of being "in Christ," will have a transforming effect in our spiritual life! When we receive Christ as our Savior, He infuses His life into us. All of the spiritual blessings we read about in the New Testament are available to all believers because they are "in Christ." They are the purchase of His blood, the fruit of His intercession, and the gift of His grace. They have been chosen, predestined, redeemed, accepted in the beloved, brought into one body, obtained an inheritance, sealed with the Holy Spirit of Promise, and blessed with all spiritual blessings in heavenly places...as a result of being "IN CHRIST."
Every blessing that is needed for spirit, soul, and body...for the past, present, and future...for salvation, sanctification and service...for time and eternity...has been provided for the believer, IN CHRIST! Look at the tremendous promise in 2 Corinthians 9:8: "God is able to make ALL grace abound to you, so that in ALL things at ALL times, having ALL that you need, you will abound in EVERY good work." That is very inclusive, and makes available to all believers the all-sufficient grace of God for every need in their lives!
God the Father has "chosen us in Christ," predestined us to "sonship," and is the architect of it all. God the Son left heaven's glory and redeemed us by His blood on Calvary. He is the procurer of our salvation, and gives us an eternal inheritance. God the Holy Spirit quickens those who hear and believe, possesses us, indwells us, empowers us, and keeps those He possesses. He is the promise of our inheritance, and the one who executes our salvation and transformation. He draws us to God and gives spiritual discernment to all who have been reconciled to God by Him.
And what is the purpose for all of this? His purpose is, that we might be to the praise and glory of His grace, holy and without blame before Him in love. The first thing Paul prays for is, "that God may give unto you the spirit of wisdom and revelation in the knowledge of Him." And what is that wisdom? "The wisdom that comes from heaven is first of all pure; then peace-loving, considerate, submissive, full of mercy and good fruit, impartial and sincere." Then he prays that the eyes of their understanding be enlightened. And what is it he wants God to reveal to them? "The hope of his calling"..."The riches of the glory of his inheritance in the saints" and "The exceeding greatness of his power to us who believe." What great concern he had for them to be established!
God's indwelling presence makes His power available to us, but there is a condition that must be met before His power is manifested through the believer. His power is available only to those who "DARE TO TRUST" and is limited only by our faith in Christ. It is sufficient to break the strong holds of Satan and empower us to live above the circumstances we encounter. Claim every spiritual blessing in Christ...that is your purchased inheritance. Appropriate as your own, the resources and riches of His grace!
