My Life Orchestrated by God

"He hath put a new song in my mouth, even praise unto our God: many shall see it, and fear, and shall trust in the LORD." Psalm 40:3

Dr. Dennis Kinlaw gives some interesting thoughts on our lives being orchestrated by God. Whenever symphony conductors spoke of their peers, Arturo Toscanini was referred to as the "Master Maestro." He was the "conductor's conductor" and no one excelled more. He was the greatest! Toscanini was a perfectionist in music. He hated any intrusion into the silence he demanded when conducting. He asked that the programs be printed on silk so that they would not make any noise when people referred to them. His sense of hearing was so keen that he could detect a weakness in a musician just by listening to tapes. He was ingenious in extracting from musicians the greatness of their talent and in interpreting the music with the innermost feeling of the composer. To attend a concert by a symphony orchestra conducted by Arturo Toscanini was a "classic delight" in musical presentation. It was the ultimate in classical music.

The NBC Symphony Orchestra invited Toscanini to be the guest conductor for a South American tour. He could invite any top musicians to play in key positions. He invited several to join him and they began to practice for the tour. It was a hot summer day as they rehearsed on one of the upper floors of Carnegie Hall. There was no air conditioning as we know it today, and it was hot and humid as they went through preliminaries before practicing together for their first piece. It was one of Beethoven's master works.

As they went through the prelude, they began to get engrossed in the music. By the time they reached the second movement, they were beside themselves. Into the third movement, they were simply blown away. By the time they reached the finale, they were LOST! After they played the final note, there was complete silence, followed by a spontaneous outburst of cheers and acclamation from every musician to the greatness of Toscanini! The conductor hated applause, and he finally calmed down the musicians so he could speak to them. In his precise and articulate manner, he said, "Gentlemen, it's not Toscanini; it's Beethoven. You've just never heard him before!"

How blessed it is when our lives are under the direction of the "Master Conductor" who can orchestrate our lives and extract heavenly music from them. As He takes us from one movement to another, we, like the musicians, will be lost in the wonder of His greatness. He will bring from our lives those chords and melodies only He can produce. The potential is there, but it must be brought out in the melodies of our life under His baton of blessing and leadership. All the way through the "music of our lives" will be the various movements within the heavenly score. Some will be in a fast, up-beat tempo, while others will have the slow, meaningful sounds of delight and distinction. But all will be under the artful, majestic control of God as He orchestrates every note and blends every portion of the score into a masterful production. Then comes the FINALE, and the last notes are played. The angels in heaven will applaud in praise and worship to HIM. "He hath put a new song in my mouth, even praise unto our God: many shall see it, and fear, and shall trust in the LORD." Yield your life as an instrument in the hand of the MASTER.
