He Washed and Came Seeing

"And he said unto him, Go, wash in the pool of Siloam (which is by interpretation, Sent). He went his way, therefore, and washed, and came seeing." John 9:7

Two things taking place in this incident, in which Jesus heals the man who was blind from birth, are always evident when God works in or through us. They are very closely linked to our spiritual journey and are essential to an effective and fruitful walk with the Lord. They are OBEDIENCE and FAITH.

The blind man obeyed what Jesus instructed him to do, and he went forth to the pool of Siloam and washed his eyes in faith. The result was that he received his sight. God always manifests His presence and power in the lives of believers who walk in obedience, exercise faith, and give God His rightful place as Sovereign in their lives.

The Pharisees were outraged at this miracle, and proclaimed Christ to be a sinner for having "worked" on the Sabbath. In their opinion, spitting on the ground to make clay to anoint the blind man's eyes was breaking the law. They were more interested in the "letter of the law" than in the miracle that had taken place when the blind man received his sight. But those who had known the blind man were astounded and sought an explanation. They took him to the Pharisees, who questioned him and his parents. Finally, the blind man simply said with conviction and authority, "One thing I know, that whereas I was blind, NOW I SEE."

The Pharisees could not deny the miracle that stood so convincingly before them. When I read this incident, I thought, "Wouldn't it be wonderful if our lives were so transformed by the power of God that we would also be a miracle of God's mighty power?" The love of God would be so evident in our lives that people would wonder what had taken place!

That happened to Peter and John when they were brought before the Sadducees and were questioned about the crippled man being healed. When they examined Peter and John and "perceived they were unlearned and ignorant men, they marveled." The only explanation they could give was, "They had been with Jesus." "Beholding the man, they could say nothing" (Acts 4:13,14).

Shouldn't we live our lives so that our attitudes, conversation, and walk will be evidence of His life being lived through us? Shouldn't the fruit of the Spirit be seen in our lives "by purity, by knowledge, by long-suffering, by kindness, by the Holy Ghost, by love unfeigned," so that there will be no doubt that we have been with Jesus?

Such has been the testimony of many who have turned their lives over to the Lordship of Christ. They have come to a freedom and release from the bondage of a self-centered life. When Christ is given the authority of our lives, when we surrender to Him our will to control our lives, then He gives us HIS LIFE, that will reflect the "fruit of the Spirit" to others.

Then our lives, like that of the blind man who received his sight, will be miracles of His grace and will magnify the One who did it all, JESUS OUR LORD! Wouldn't you like this to be true in your life? It can WHEN YOU WALK IN OBEDIENCE AND DARE TO TRUST!
